Saturday Motivation! The Glory of God!

Text:  Isaiah 60 v 1-3: Arise, Shine for your light has come and the Glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you; and His glory will be seen upon you.

What is God`s Glory?

Literal Meaning

Glory is brilliant, radiant beauty. Glory is a term that is sometimes used to refer to a glow or light that appears around the head of a holy person or saint.

It can also be used to refer to the worth of a person in the material sense and to express how important, great or knowledgeable the person is.

Biblical Meaning

The Glory of God is the manifestation of God`s presence and power as perceived by humans. It is the power that can save, deliver, heal, transform and resurrect.  It is the weight of God and is stronger than any power or force.

The Glory of God prevents believers from walking in darkness. It envelopes us when we dwell in Him and He in us.

It is the manifest beauty of God`s holiness and the splendor that comes from God. It acknowledges God`s supreme strength. It encompasses all of God`s attributes

The Glory of God is used in a variety of ways in the scriptures to mean his beauty, his power, his light, his supreme strength and our need to acknowledge and serve him.

When we walk in God`s glory, there is a fire that burns within us that evil spirits cannot withstand.

The way to walk in God`s glory is by yearning for it, praying for it and after receiving it, by walking in it.

The major difference between the glory of God and the glory of man is that the Glory of God is permanent while the glory of man fades. The glory of man cannot achieve the purpose of God without Him in it. The glory of man is subject to the law of man while the Glory of God is subject to God.

In the law, we learn that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins. The law cannot save us. Only Jesus Christ can save us. He`s the fulfillment of the law.

How do we attract God`s glory

We can attract God`s glory in the following ways;

1. By being humble; Proverbs 11 v 2; When pride comes then come disgrace but with humility comes wisdom.

2. By thirsting and yearning for God; Matthew 5 v 6;Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied.

3. By honoring God;1 Corinthians 6 v 20; for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

 4. By consecration;Leviticus 20 v 7; Consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am the Lord your God.

 5. By Magnifying God`s Holy Name; Psalm 69 v 30: I will praise the Name of the Lord with a song and magnify Him with thanksgiving.

6. By Prayer;  Jeremiah 29 v 12; Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you

7. By our acts of generosity; Proverbs 19 v 17: Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed.

The glory of God can be revealed through;

• His Power; Romans 1 v 20 says; For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made , even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. The power of God reflects and displays the glory of God.

 • His Presence; The presence of God reveals the power of God whenever it is displayed. Exodus 40 v 34 says; Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

• His Promises to us in Scriptures; Isaiah 42 v 8; I am the Lord that is my Name, I will not give my glory to anyone else, nor share my praise with carved idols.

Examples of carriers of God`s Glory

1. Moses: In Exodus 34 v 29 -35; reflected the glory of God and same opportunity is available to us all as believers.

2. John; In John 1 v 14; says; the Bible says; and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. The glory of God was evident in John`s life and ministry and this was illustrated in the works he did.

The light we need is the light of Jesus Christ. Without it, we can do nothing. That is why He said in John 15 v 5 that we should abide in Him and He will abide in us.

3. Jesus: John 1 v 17: The glory of God is about the person of Jesus Christ and this is transferred to us all as believers because this glory is revealed in us the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal savior.  Colossians 3 v 4 says; When Christ who is our life appears then you also will appear with Him in glory. This means that Christ returns in His glory, it will be displayed in the lives of every believer.

4. The Bible:  In Revelation 15 v 8; The glory of God was revealed in a number of ways in the Bible. In His power through a demonstration to the children of Israel. Through the personality of Jesus Christ and all the people that come to know Him. And in the promises of His second coming.
